Routes for a break in Girona
There are many recommended routes for you to take in Girona: hiking routes, routes through villages or even gastronomic routes through the region’s restaurants, such as the magnificent restaurants of l’Escala.
Today we are going to present a very interesting and recommended route to explore the municipality of L’Escala.
The great appealing of this route lies in the variety of spaces and landscapes. On one hand, you will enjoy panoramic views on a large number of beaches and coves and on the other; you can tour rural roads and discover beautiful landscapes and historic farmhouses.
The route begins in Cala Montgó, from the same beach, head to the center of L’Escala along Trencabraços street, once you reach Punta Montgó Street; follow the signs GR-92 to Pòrt de la Clota passing through Punta dels Cinc Sous, in direction to the beach El Salpatx and Les Penyes. Then cross the harbor through Romeu de Corbera Street to get to the silk sand beach of Riells. Then go along the beach until you reach the promenade, which, following the coast, will take you to the old town of l’Escala
Without skirting the seashore, pass through the Creu, where you will see numerous and picturesque fishing huts. Keep walking until you find Lampadòdor, a monument dedicated to the Olympic flame, once there, take the Paseo de Empúries.
The promenade of Empúries has a length of two and a half kilometers, as you cross it, you will pass many beaches such as the Portitxol or El Moll Grec. Finally, you will reach the town Sant Martí d’Empúries.
Go through the town and continue along the road towards the Mas Sastruc. Later, take the road that leads to the farmhouses of Les Corts, signposted as “Les Corts to Empúries Road”, follow the road until you reach the road to Bellcaire. Finally you will find Camí dels Termes, follow it in an easterly direction until you reach the starting point, Cala Montgó.
With this circular hiking route, you will have traveled approximately 18 kilometers and certainly, there is no better way of putting an end to the adventure that enjoying a tasty meal and fantastic views of the Cala Montgó in our restaurant in l’Escala.
